Origin

This land had no soil.

We were handed a degraded plot: topsoil and subsoil removed. Laterite in the sun. There was no horizon to improve. It had to be raised. The method was — and is — making compost.

Organic tanks and pulp on the farm

Compost piles on the farm

Straw-mulched terraces

This is the photo of the stripped plot. The file has no date; we do not invent one. Nor kilos of “soil created.” Compost, tanks and terraces are the later work on this same land.

What raising soil means

Compost does not invent clay. It organizes life.

The parent material is still there. What changes is the surface: mulch, roots, hyphae, aggregates that hold in the rain. Primavesi said it for the tropics: structure is made by life, not by a prairie profile.

Residuos Dinámicos was born from that need. We collect organics because this farm could not buy fertility. How matter enters →

Tropical profile

Life is at the surface.

Litter and mulch. A thin A horizon. Laterite below. Not chernozem. In the tropics, if you uncover the surface, the job is over.

Ana María Primavesi: tropical soil is held by life at the surface, not by a deep black mantle.

What you see now

Beds, mulch, roots.

The farm is not a forest restored overnight. It is a plot under construction: nursery, garden, piles, terraces. The indicator is not a carbon credit. It is aggregates that do not wash away, roots that find food, birds that use the canopy.
